Bitches Be Cookin’: Korean Fried Chicken

Ok y’all so I’ve been very into Asian flavors lately. Like super obsessed to the point where I crave it.

And I figured it was fate when I just so happen to be watching Giada At Home on Netflix and this episode just so happen to be about Korean type dishes. The universe be knowin’ man.

So I figured I’d make Korean Fried Chicken for my first meal in my apartment!

Let’s get started!

*sidenote: I paired this with my fried rice that I previously posted. You can check it out here: {https://snaxnthecity.com/2016/08/10/bitches-be-basic-fried-rice}*

What you’ll need is ::

  • 1/2 cup Potato starch
  • 1/2 cup Flour
  • 2 tbsp Rice wne vinegar
  • 2 tbsp Sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp Fish sauce
  • 4 tbsp Gochujang (Korean chile paste)
  • 2 tablespoons of grated ginger
  • 2 cloves of elephant garlic
  • 1/4 cup of Brown sugar
  • 3 tbsp Soy sauce
  • Chicken wings and drumettes (I used about 8)

Before coating the chicken, be sure to pat it all the way dry.

Toss the chicken in the flour and potato starch with salt and pepper to taste.

When frying, just submerge chicken into hot canola oil at about 375 degrees for 15 mins. This is how they’ll turn out!

Set those aside to drain. Now we make our sauce.

Mince the garlic into fine pieces of use a press and let go and let God.

Toss that and the grated ginger into a skillet pan. I grated about a tablespoon or so.

Add in the fish sauce, sesame oil, Gochujang, soy sauce, brown sugar and rice wine vinegar. Bring that to a simmer for about two minutes to thicken slightly.

I chose to let it simmer a minute or two longer cause I wanted my sauce to be thicker.

Transfer the sauce to a bowl and toss the fried chicken until fully coated.

Have some fried rice on the side and Bon Appetit!

Enjoy, mes amies. ❤
