Snax N The City.

Snax N The City Thanksgiving: Potatoes Au Gratin.

I’ll be the first to admit it: I’m not above making boxed things.
Take my favorite take on potatoes, for instance. Potatoes au gratin is a favorite of mine that I would make from scratch if I had the proper tools. But since I don’t have a mandolin which would get all the potatoes nice & even, the boxed stuff will do for now.

This gooey, cheesy potato dish fills me up & is a hit every time I make it. The key to making boxed things taste homemade is personalization , of course. Check out how I take this boxed side dish from dull to delicious:

 potato

Two Boxes of Au Gratin Mix (Is this considered a mix? I can’t think of a better word for it.)

One cup of heavy whipping cream.

One cup of Italian blend cheese (an easy way to get like 5 cheeses in one bag!)

One cup of parmesan cheese.

Okay, so follow the directions on the back of the box, which is boiling the potatoes until they are tender.

Once that is finished, I placed that in a pan & covered the potato mix with heavy whipping cream, which gives it a creamy taste.

I then sprinkled both of the cheese on top of that, & mixed it a little, so the cheese & cream could be distributed throughout the potatoes.

Than I just pop that in the oven until the cheese is bubbly & there’s a nice crisp top, about 10 minutes or so with the oven on 400 degrees.

and there you have it,

a simple way to make something boxed look & taste homemade!
